This year’s Media Architecture Biennale, MAB14, was held in Copenhagen and Aarhus, Denmark, between 19 and 22 November. It all ended with a grand award show at the town hall in Aarhus.
Fifteen projects from all over the world were nominated in five categories. Two of the winners were Danish projects! Kollision won the category for best Money Architecture with their project ‘Dia Lights’ in Copenhagen. In the category of best Animated Architecture, lighting architect Gunver Hansen and Martin Professional won for their execution of the Energy Tower in Roskilde.
The founder of MAB, Gernot Tscherteu from Austria, was not surprised that two of the categories were won by Danish projects, and said “It is as if media architecture projects suit the Danish way of taking on a task. The projects make use of high tech solutions in an intelligent and sustainable way, and the Danish are not afraid of big-scaled projects, or buildings in the public space that demand attention”.
Apart from the award show, the Media Architecture Biennale also hosted a conference and an exhibition, as well as workshops where participants across professions and nationalities created and discussed the media architecture of the future. They also investigated how media architecture shapes people’s lives in the cities of the world.
The next MAB will be held in Sydney in 2016.
