The renowned Danish audio and television manufacturer Bang & Olufsen recently presented a truly remarkable loudspeaker on the occasion of its 90th birthday. Bang & Olufsen has called the BeoLab90 one of the most ambitious projects in the history of the company, founded by Peter Bang and Svend Olufsen – two engineers, who had a dream about creating magical experiences for their customers by combining outer beauty with sublime technical performance.
Over many decades, Bang & Olufsen has unveiled a series of new designs, which have all focused on delivering great experiences to the company’s customers. Still headquartered in Struer, Denmark, Bang & Olufsen has a long list of milestones since its foundation in 1925.
Uncompromising efforts have been put into the new BeoLab 90 speaker, which emphasise three well-known Bang & Olufsen traits: build quality, sound quality and of course design. The BeoLab90 is an advanced speaker that is based on years of innovation, craftsmanship and passion.
According to Bang & Olufsen, the BeoLab90 has been designed with an eye to define the future of sound. Multiple intelligent technologies have been built in to the speaker in order to fulfil this goal. With Active Room Compensation technology, the BeoLab90 takes into account the position of the speaker and the surrounding furniture to adjust the sound. This technology allows the speaker to produce such a detailed and precise sound picture that you are able to tell exactly where the different band members or actors in your favourite movie are placed.
“BeoLab 90 is the future of sound. This intelligent loudspeaker measures the acoustical effects of its surroundings and directs superb sound to your favourite listening position. You do not have to be close to the speaker or even in front of it to get an excellent sound experience”, says CEO of Bang & Olufsen, Tue Mantoni.
Comprising a total of 18 speaker units, the 360-degree design is made to deliver a full acoustic experience, while each speaker boasts 8200 watts from ICEpower amplifiers. Based on a complex aluminium cabinet totalling more than 65 kg of aluminium, each speaker has a total weight of 137 kg. The speaker units are installed behind black fabric that hover like sails in front of the speakers, while the curved wooden base lifts up the large structure from the floor.
The BeoLab 90 can be controlled with a traditional Bang & Olufsen remote or by using a dedicated app on a smartphone. With the app, the user is able to control beam width and direction. In addition, the user can pre-program all the speakers’ features and save presets that suit his or her preference for different occasions.
