Danish design and manufacturing company Skovby Furniture has been around for quite some time. Their history goes back almost a century, and with their passion for natural materials they are known for creating innovative and functional designs for everyday use.
Times are changing, and with sustainability being one of the hottest topics of the last few decades, the eagerness for “buy-and-consume” products is changing as well. People nowadays want furniture that stands out and lasts for years to come and they want their furniture to fit their ways of living.
“Our customers focus is shifting towards products with a great level of quality and durability. They have become more involved in the design of their homes, and they demand the opportunity to customize and individualize their furniture to fit their needs. With the new Skovby collection, we strive to meet these wishes and needs by offering a wide selection of modern and functional products, with many colours, materials and combination possibilities,” says Jørgen Rasmussen, owner and sales director of Skovby Furniture.
It is no secret that there is a lot of chairs on the market, and there’s definitely a lot of veneer chairs out there. But that didn’t stop Skovby from launching a new one, one that is a bit edgy and honours the simplicity of Danish design.
“My purpose and vision were to create a unique-shaped veneer shell as a guide-form for the 800-series. I wanted to create something edgy that would stand out from the huge selection of veneer-shell chairs in the market. The result is an appealing geometric shape with distinctive lines that will surprise you from every angle,” says Per Hånsbæk, architect and designer for Skovby Furniture.
Founded in 1933 by cabinetmaker Thorvald Rasmussen, Skovby is today owned by third-generation and grandsons Preben and Jørgen Rasmussen.
Common for all three generations is the passion for function. Skovby was amongst the frontrunners designing functional extension systems for tables, and today the furniture company is world renowned for its special talent to combine design and functionality. The continuous and direct reason for Skovby’s success is their ability to develop designs that unite a strong aesthetic expression with innovative function.
Presented at the Stockholm Furniture Fair in February, Skovby Furniture launched a new collection from which we’ve chosen four products, which come in different materials and colours.
#802/812 Dining Chair
The model is a light and characteristic model, and comes in a veneer shell with stainless steel legs and armrest.
#807/817 Dining Chair
The chair comes with the same shell as the above, but with matching wooden legs.
#55 Dining Chair
The #55 takes its roots from the #65 chair and offers the same design and comfort, but with a new base.
This new desk comes with different options for the materials, and with the choice of a wooden frame or a rounded stainless-steel frame. All options are available with a mounted USB connector, a spacious drawer and Velcro straps for cables and wires.
