Arkitema Architects was founded in Aarhus in 1969. Today, the practice is one of Scandinavia’s biggest architectural firms, with eleven Danish partners, a Swedish partner and a staff of 300 employees, divided between branches in Copenhagen, Aarhus, Oslo, Stockholm and Malmö: Five Nordic branches that all think, design and construct architecture on the basis of a Nordic idiom. Arkitema Architects are thus focused on the location, the daylight conditions and the changing seasons, and aim to create good, functional solutions in simple, robust and sensual materials.

Arkitema Architects design and construct buildings to create the best architectural environment for human beings – an approach to architecture that dates back to the practice’s common origin. This approach and the practice’s commitment to the surrounding society are professionalised in architecture that is responsive to its surroundings. Arkitema Architects empathise with the location, taking into account the needs of the community, and maintaining a continuous dialogue with the client, the users and the partners. In this way, the architecture grows out of the sum of the many different stakeholders in the project, and through this process, the practice secure architectural work that is buildable, realisable, sustainable and aesthetically pleasing.

Arkitema Architects work in all architectural scales, from interiors to construction architecture to urban planning, but has concentrated it’s professional skills in five segments: Housing, Commercial, Health, Learning and Urban Design. Together, these five segments form the foundation of the modern Scandinavian city. This is where people spend most of their time, whether at home, at work, going around the city, in the park, at school or on visits to the doctor or the hospital – this is where people live.
