Carl Hansen & Søn

Carl Hansen & Søn was established in 1908 by cabinetmaker Carl Hansen. The company’s passion for producing high-quality furniture is rooted in more than a century of craftsmanship traditions. To this day, Carl Hansen & Søn remains faithful to their design philosophy producing quality furniture of lasting beauty and value, with respect for sustainable design and materials.

Carl Hansen & Søn is the largest manufacturer of furniture designed by Hans J. Wegner. The company continually develops its portfolio by gathering iconic furniture classics in their portfolio, such as The Wishbone Chair by Hans J. Wegner, The Safari Chair by Kaare Klint, The Folding Chair by Mogens Koch and The Colonial Chair by Ole Wanscher. Iconic classics that are all characterized by high-quality and sustainable craftsmanship. Furthermore, Carl Hansen & Søn continually seeks and incorporates new designs into its portfolio. The company currently produces furniture by the Christina Strand and Niels Hvass design duo, as well as Thomas Bo Kastholm, son of renowned Danish architect and furniture designer Jørgen Kastholm.

Representing the third generation after founder Carl Hansen, Knud Erik Hansen led the family-owned company into a new phase in 2002 when he initiated an internationalization process that resulted in the company’s furniture being sold around the world. Carl Hansen & Søn operates sales subsidiaries in Canada, Japan and China, and has showrooms in New York, Tokyo and Copenhagen. The company has its own sales representatives in Great Britain, Norway, Sweden, Germany and Hong Kong, while the rest of the world is covered by separate agents.

To mark the 100th anniversary of Hans J. Wegner’s birth, Carl Hansen & Son launched Wegner’s CH88 chair – a 1955 design that has, to date, existed only as a prototype.
