GRUMDESIGN Troels Grum-Schwensen

The Danish design studio GRUMDESIGN Troels Grum-Schwensen primarily works with furniture design and other design areas related to the architectural space, such as interior design, exhibitions, buildings and rebuildings.

The studio was founded by Troels Grum-Schwensen, an architect and designer with a degree from the Royal Danish Academy of fine Arts in Copenhagen in 1986. Over the years, the studio has produced several innovative, well-proportioned and prize-winning furniture designs. The design studio works for leading Danish and international furniture brands and designs interiors and architectural building projects for companies as well as for private clients.

“In the design process, we always take a step back, trying to find new ways to do things and sometimes breaking the frame. It is important to be subtle and to use the whole spectre of scales, as well as to ’zoom out’, before ’zooming in’”, says Troels Grum-Schwensen.

Grum-Schwensen works with buildings, interior design and furniture design. His approach is to focus on the spaces and the humans living inside them, and because of that, the furniture from Grum-Schwensen, is designed with a high degree of flexibility and adaptability to fit into different rooms and architectural environments.

This is, in some cases, achieved through an innovative, artistic interpretation of the construction, where gravity is cleverly exploited for locking and stabilizing.

The different angles and proportions are carefully adjusted, in a close relationship with the function of the furniture, in order to achieve an airy, agile and balanced aesthetic.

The GRIP table is inspired by tightrope walkers: balance and control challenging gravity, in an artistic, playful and elegant expression.
